Managing Your Address Book

The SAMNet Address Book is a great resource for storing contact information for your friends, relatives, and business contacts. You can have phone numbers, street addresses, and email addresses -- all in one place.

The Address Book is located in the email section of SAMNet, directly after the option for contacting technical support. Pressing Enter on the Manage Address Book option will bring you to the main screen for doing so. Contact List

The first menu you will encounter in the Address Book is your Contact List. You will find the list of names that you have previously stored in your Address Book. You can arrow up or down in this list to find a specific name. Once you have selected a name, you can then choose from the buttons below to View, Edit or Delete the contact. You can place more names in this list by using the Add a Contact option, which is located near the bottom of this screen.

Viewing a Contact

You can see the information you already have saved for each one of your contacts by selecting one name from the Contact List and then pressing the View button. Simply move up or down to find the name you want, then tab to the View button, and press Enter or Space to activate it. You can only see the information you have already saved under the View option. If you see something you would like to change, or if something isn't the way you would like it to be, then you can alter the saved information by using the Edit option.

Editing a Contact

As you did in the View option, you can select a name from the Contact List, but press the Edit button instead. From this screen, you will be able to alter names, phone numbers, and other information for each contact you have in your Contact List. Once you have modified the information for your contact, move to the Save Changes button at the bottom of this screen. Pressing this button will save all the changes you have made to the edit fields in this form.

Deleting a Contact

To delete an existing contact from your Contact List, move through your Contact List and select the name you would like to delete. Once you have done so, move to and press the Delete button. Warning: You will not be asked if you would like to delete a contact from your list once you have pressed the button. You will have to recreate your contact with its complete information.

Adding a Contact

Add a new contact to your Contact List by selecting the Add Contact option. Once you have chosen this option, you will find fields for adding information for your new Contact's name, email address, and so on. Just enter the information you would like to be saved in each edit field, then move to the Save Changes button. Press this button to keep the information you have entered. You can always go back and change this information later by selecting the name from the Contact List and then choosing the Edit button.

Create Folder

Choose this option to create a new folder. Type in the name of your new folder, then tab once to the Create button. You can use folders to easily organize your email by category.

Using Other Programs with SAMNet Mail

SAMNet members now have the ability to check their SAMNet email accounts from outside of SAMNet. While the SAMNet mailer is very easy to use, there may be times where you will want to use another program, such as Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Mac Mail, or the mailer on your mobile device, and now you can. Please note that this feature may be difficult for novice users to set up, as the location of mail account settings will vary. Serotek technical support may be unable to give in-depth assistance with setting up your particular email client.

To enable this feature, follow these steps:

  1. Open SAMNet by pressing Control+Alt+N.

  2. Select Email from the SAMNet main screen and press Enter.

  3. Select the Set POP3/IMAP Password (advanced) link and press Enter.

  4. Fill in a password. This password will only be used to retrieve your email using POP3 or IMAP. It has no bearing on your PIN to access other network services or SAToGo. Type this password in both the Password and the Confirm Password edit fields. Note that you will not hear the password as you type it, so type carefully.

  5. Press the OK button.

Now, you can set up your email client. This will likely be Windows Live Mail, Outlook, or Outlook Express on Windows. You can also use the mailer on your mobile device, on your iPhone, or on your Mac, or Linux machines. Here are the settings you will need. Please note that the location of these settings will vary by email client, and support may not be able to help you find them.

If using Outlook or Outlook Express, do not check the box for Secure Password Authentication.

The SMTP server does require authentication to be used. You will use the same login and password for the SMTP server as you used for the incoming IMAP or POP3 servers above.
