downloading is the process of copying items on the Internet to your local computer for later retrieval. When audio is encountered, you are given the option to download or stream. If you think you will only want to listen to it once, choose Stream to listen immediately without taking up any space on your hard drive. However, if you want to listen to it at a later time, or transfer to another device, choose the Download option.
When downloading software, a window will open which contains the name of the file you are about to download. This is an edit box so you may change the name to something more meaningful to you. If you are happy with the filename, or you simply don't care, just press Enter to begin the download. If you prefer to have the file placed in another location on your hard drive, Tab once and press the Spacebar or Enter key on the button that says "Choose Another Location." You can then browse to the place where you want the file to be copied; such as c:music, d:software, e:podcasts, etc. If you decide you do not want this file after all, simply tab to the Cancel button, or just press Escape.
Once you start the download, a window will open which offers information about the status of the transfer to your computer. Information includes time elapsed, time remaining, transfer speed, and percentage completed. You may tab through these messages to hear what most matters to you. When the transfer is complete, simply press Space or Enter on the Close button. Unless you specify otherwise, all downloads will be placed in various directories under the System Access directory which are organized by file type. You may access these options, as well as your Windows desktop, from the My Files link on SAMNet Home, or by browsing to the Serotek directory with Windows Explorer.
If you are downloading a file that will take some time, you can press the Escape key to close the status window, and the download will continue in the background. To retrieve files after closing the status window, choose "Active Downloads" from SAMNet Home.
