SAMNet members now have the ability to check their SAMNet Email accounts from outside of SAMNet. While the SAMNet mailer is very easy to use, there may be times where you will want to use another program, such as Outlook Express, Windows Live Mail, Mac Mail, or the mailer on your mobile device. Now you can. Please note that this feature may be difficult for novice users to set up, as the location of mail account settings will be different from one Email program to another. Serotek technical support may be unable to give in-depth assistance with setting up your particular Email client.
To enable this feature, follow these steps:
- Open SAMNet by pressing ctrl+alt+n.
- Select "Email" from the SAMNet desktop and press enter.
- Select Set POP3/IMAP Password (advanced) link and press enter.
- Fill in a password. This password will only be used to retrieve your Email using POP3 or IMAP. It has no bearing on your PIN to access other network services or SAToGo. Type this password in both the password and the confirm password edit fields. Note that you will not hear the password as you type it, so type carefully.
- Press the OK button.
Now, you can set up your Email client. This will likely be Windows Live Mail, Outlook, or Outlook Express on Windows. You can also use the mailer on your mobile device, on your iPhone, or on your Mac or Linux machines. Here are the settings you will need. Please note that the location of these settings will vary by Email client and support may not be able to help you find them.
- Your name: What you want people to see when they get Email from you
- Incoming server type: POP3 or IMAP. You can use either one, but IMAP is recommended if you plan to check your Email from multiple places, such as the SAMNet mailer, Windows Live Mail, and your mobile device. IMAP does a better job of keeping mail straight when it's checked from several mailers or several locations.
- Incoming mail server: mail.samobile.net
- Outgoing mail server: mail.samobile.net. Note: We do support SSL encryption. If you want to use secure POP or IMAP, please use secure.samobile.net instead of mail.samobile.net for incoming and outgoing mail servers.
- Username: your complete SAMNet Email address, such as fred@samobile.net
- Password: the password you set earlier
- If using Outlook or Outlook Express, do not check the box for secure password authentication.
- The SMTP server does require authentication to be used. You will use your same login and password for the SMTP server as you use for the incoming IMAP or POP3 servers, above.
- SMTP port: Many Internet service providers block the default SMTP port, port 25, from being used, presumably so users will use their mail servers instead of someone else's to send Email. If this is the case for you, you can either send mail out through your provider's SMTP server, or you can use ours. Use port 587 for regular unencrypted SMTP, or 465 for SSL-encrypted SMTP.
