SAMNet allows any member to easily create his or her own Web site. It can feature text, audio, and even pictures, and takes just minutes to create!
When entering My Web site, you will see the following text: “The address of your personal Web site is: http://www.samobile.net/users/YourUserName What would you like to do now? Edit Basic Settings Replace Introduction Upload a Picture for the Homepage Manage My Pictures Browse Other Personal Web sitesâ€
Please note that in this case, the word “username†would be replaced with your actual SAMNet username. When choosing Edit Basic Settings, you will be presented with the following: First is an edit box for your Web site title. Choose this carefully, as it should identify what your site will offer. It will also be saved as the default title for persons adding your Web site to their bookmarks. Next is a checkbox to Include a Link to My Public Bookmarks. If you select this checkbox with the spacebar, all bookmarks that you make public will be included on your Web page. The next checkbox says Include a Link to My Public News Interests. Checking this box includes links to all news items you set up in your customized My Newspaper section of SAMNet. For more help with My Newspaper, please see Section 14: News Your Way.
Next you are presented with a drop-down with three choices related to handling your SAMNet blog. Your choices are: Don't Display My Blog Display a Link to My Blog on My Homepage" "Display My Blog on My Homepage Before the Navigation Links" Finally you are presented with an edit box to display a homepage footer. This is placed at the bottom of your Web page, and supports html commands so you can add a link to send you email, a callto link to received voice and video calls via Skype, as well as links to other Web pages. Once you have made all appropriate changes, press Spacebar on the Save Changes button to apply your settings.
The next option allows you to create an introduction if setting up for the first time, or replace your existing introduction. You can choose to create a Text Introduction, and type in what you want to say on your Web site. this can include html for email addresses, Web sites, etc. Tab once and press the spacebar on the Save button when finished. When choosing the Create Voice Introduction, you will land on a Record button. Simply press Space to begin recording the voice message to be included on your Web site. When finished, press Tab once to land on the Stop button, and press Spacebar to stop the recording. Tab to the Play button and press the spacebar to hear your audio so you can ensure it sounds the way you like. When you are satisfied, choose the Save button to add your customized voice message to your Web site. Finally, choose the Cancel button if you wish to make no changes to your introduction. Next is the option to add a picture to your Web site. You will land in an edit box where you can type the path to the photo stored on your local hard drive. If you do not know where the picture resides, Tab to the Browse button, and use Windows standard navigation commands to find the photo you want to use. Once highlighted, Tab to the OK button and press Spacebar. Tab again to the Caption edit box and type in the text you want displayed when someone either tabs to your photo or puts the mouse over it. Then Tab once and press Space on the Upload button to complete the process.
The fourth option allows you to “Manage My Pictures." Choosing this item will place you in a combo box of pictures you have already uploaded, along with the descriptive captions you have previously typed for each photo. Other options include: View Picture, to see the actual photo; Edit Caption, to change the text that is displayed with the associated photo; buttons to both Move Pictures and Delete Pictures, and links to Upload a Picture, as well as Create a Folder.
The fifth and final option allows you to Browse Other Personal Web sites. This is a great way to see how other fellow SAMNet members are creating and using their personal Web sites. Plus, it's a great way to find other informative and interesting resources to some of the best links on the Internet.
