For those interested in learning some excellent background and perspective on cochlear implants, (C I), Karen and I have begun an out loud reading of Rebuilt, How Becoming Part Computer Made Me More Human, by Michael Chorost. More info can be found on
michaelchorost.com
available via the bookmarks page right here.
If you are an NLS talking book user, you can find it on cassette as RC 6 0 8 5 0
The later paperback edition is the same as the hardcover, but titled Rebuilt, My Journey Back To The Hearing World.
Not sure yet if it’s available on commercial audiobook for mainstream reader usage. Lots of differences in experiences of course, but there sure are many parallels found within.
Turns out it is even available in braille as well. Request it from your regional library, or if you’re on webbraille, you can do a dogalog/catalog search, and download the volumes. I’ve not yet seen it pop up in Braille Book Review yet.
Thanks, Dr. Chorost, for dropping into the Blog!! Looking forward to meeting you in person, when you return to Boulder next year.
