disLabled’s Director Speaks Up!

Veteran Phamaly actor and writer, Jeremy Palmer directs the third season of disLabled. Read his insights on what makes this a must see.

Director Jeremy Palmer has been performing, writing, and directing with Phamaly Theatre Company for 16 years. With 3 years of co-head writing for Vox Phamalia under his belt, Jeremy assisted in developing and launching disLabled in Boulder. Now in Season 3, Jeremy is excited to open the show and offer audiences a stand-out show!

What makes disLabled unique?

disLabled is Phamaly’s only original full length show that is created from scratch each year. Since it’s unique to Phamaly, that means it’s pretty much the only show of its kind on the planet (meaning earth, not Boulder).

What can audiences expect from the show?

This year’s show is a courtroom comedy, of which there are few other examples in American theatre. But audiences can expect a very thought-provoking story that may challenge their own views of justice and the justice system itself – especially if they end up sitting on our jury!

How does this enhance/build the actors and their abilities?

This year especially has focused more on creating individual characters separate from the actors personalities. Several are playing non-disabled characters which is a new challenge for them. The experience of hearing their words and stories brought to life on stage, to say nothing of the rehearsal and creative process, is something that builds a lot of things, like camaraderie, confidence, and catharsis.

What is your favorite aspect of disLabled?

As a writer, it’s very exhilarating to take a production from 0 to 60 in such a short amount of time. Taking the stories, personalities, disabilities, and opinions of such an eclectic group of actors and forming those into a production, it’s like working with Mad Libs as a kid (or LEGOs as an adult, to be more appropriate to my own hobbies) to build something out of seemingly disparate pieces. People will judge the end product for themselves. But as a creative experience, it’s pretty awesome!

Walking in a building lobby yesterday, someone rolled plowed by in a wheelchair shouting, “hey blindy, coming thru in a chair.” Then, crackle crunch, as they ran over both canes. One probably needed retiring soon, but still, the point being, Hmmmm….

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Happy Thanksgiving
‘Twas The Night Of Thanksgiving,
But I Just Couldn’t Sleep.

I Tried Counting Backwards,
I Tried Counting Sheep.

The Leftovers Beckoned,
The Dark Meat And White.

But I Fought The Temptation,
With All Of My Might.

Tossing And Turning With Anticipation,
The Thought Of A Snack Became Infatuation.

So I Raced To The Kitchen, Flung Open The Door,
And Gazed At The Fridge, Full Of Goodies Galore.

Gobbled Up Turkey And Buttered Potatoes,
Pickles And Carrots, Beans And Tomatoes.

I Felt Myself Swelling So Plump And So Round,
‘Til All Of A Sudden, I Rose Off The Ground.

I Crashed Through The Ceiling,
Floating Into The Sky.

With A Mouthful Of Pudding,
And A Handful Of Pie.

But, I Managed To Yell As I Soared Past The Trees,
Happy Eating To All, Pass The Cranberries, Please!

May Your Stuffing Be Tasty,
May Your Turkey Be Plump.

May Your Potatoes ‘n Gravy,
Have Nary A Lump.

May Your Yams Be Delicious.
May Your Pies Take The Prize.

And May Your Thanksgiving Dinner,
Stay Off Of Your Thighs.

You'll sneeze your eye out kid.

Yep, sneezed one out of my head this morn. Wonder if it’s fast approaching time for new ones. Coming up on 10 years January.

Sunday Dinner

Posted:

We were going to do biscuits along with fried chicken and mega mac and cheez. Tube imploded while opening. Biscuit and tube shrapnel off over dining room. Reminded me of the old military song that says:
The biscuits in the army, they say are mighty fine,
One rolled off the table, and killed a pal of mine!!
