New Section Added to News Interests

A new custom section added today. Cochlear Implant News. It should pull some interesting tidbits, I’m sure. It already gleaned some articles about goings on at the corporate level in Australia at Cochlear, the makers of the official Paulmigs Magnahead, and associated ware. It should prove interesting reading.

Sing Along At SingSing

Posted:

A great birthday party last Friday night for Maryann at SingSing piano bar in Lodo, downtown Denver. My first time post surgery experience in that type of setting. I suddenly realized “Hmmmm. ***This is how I would play keyboard at parties and in informal settings in a past life and time. I could do this kind of thing!!” (grin) It was good to try something like that, in order to see what kind of tolerant coherence window and pattern was there for a very loud setting. Allas, unfortunately it ultimately turned into a severe overload, accompanied by the onset of the ever famous brain feedback loop, where the brain is trying to do it’s own processing of sounds, lagging behind the computer processor for the implant and my magnahead. And as Karen said, that was to be expected, and even with other tweaks, that kind of environment is something you really can’t ask of an implant in any sense. People have asked if that kind of onslaught is physically painful. No, not at all, but rather a total mishmosh of binary resulting in no useful hearing for a time after. The remaining dregs of the brain feedback loop, (bfl), settled down by Saturday night. Karen also said, we’re of course all learning here, and I’m still in the baby stage, and that is certainly fine (smile) More things to learn and cover in weekly ear class. Big mapping session coming up Monday. I’ll elaborate with more to follow soon.

After a techno absence, up and running once again. Many things to catch up on, as it’s time to delve into full swing for the pre holly daze mode to get ready for all things funn and lafter!! More to follow.

The Spider Legg is out of the cast.

Things much better now. However, I almost did take a sort of stumble flop, passing by a chair in the waiting room this morning. All intact, though. No damage done. I’ll go back in 3 weeks for a checkup and see how it goes.

Remember to speak normally, please.

Posted:

I’ve come to the conclusion: it sure does help when people speak in normal fashion. I had an experience back to back, calling on the phone to place an order, followed by the delivery. On the phone, the fella spoke mega fast. I realized towards the end to ask him to slow down please. And the delivery fella, a different fella, the same. As for the phone, it is certainly gravitating more and more to the right side only. The left side is really not sounding good for the phone. As for making sure people speak in normal tones, aah, well, ***maybe those 2 spoke mega fast by default. Just like listening to speech on the computer when reading the screen; sometimes the default is ***way fast!! (smile) That being the case and norm I’m sure, I promise to try even harder at doing better at processing what have you. This latest mapping is sounding great. I know it doesn’t appear that way to others at times, but, as I tell those who ask how it is going, I say, “It’s going as it should”. (smile again)

Name change for Radio Reading Service of the Rockies

As things move forward for upcoming techno changes in digital distribution of information, so also comes redoing of market strategies and packaging for promotion of offerings. Thus, enter the new name, Audio Information Network of Colorado. You can find it near the top of the Bookmarks Page.

Today's Megamap session

Posted:

A great marathon today. Increases made in high frequencies for further clarity, in order to enhance all those various consonant and vowell clusters I’ve needed work on. Ranges across the board for all frequencies were 10 to 20 dB, very much within normal hearing threshhold. A good looking audiogram in the booth, ***and, 100 percent for individual random words for the first time!! Since this implant comes from Australia, Allison presented me with a stuffed implanted coala bear, fully decked out in total implant regalia, including processor. He shall be named Magnahead. (smile)

A great play and dinner last night.

Posted:

Dinner at Rockbottom Brewery and a performance of “Urinetown”, done by Phamaly, an excellent group of disabled actors. I’d been wanting to see their shows for years, but this was the first. It was great meeting them after. I’m thinking of auditioning and joining in the fun myself!! Why not??

Mysterious Sound Encounters in downtown Denver

Posted:

Walking along 16th and Curtis, there were suddenly several sounds appearing from, who knows where?? Maybe the street itself?? Animal sounds!! Like, chickens and maybe jungle bird sounds!! I wonder what they were. Any enlightening thoughts? Curious magnahead wants to know.

More Encounters with new magnetic objects this week.

And it was, the barber chair!! That’s right, the score is barber chair 2, magnahead nothing!! I was in the midst of a shave, and twice, turned my head to the side and, well, I think you know the inevitable rest (smile).

Crowning The Implant King

Posted:

Well, not really ever a king of course, I mean, not ***ever a king for that matter. But, with celebrating 6 months of being a Magnahead, there was today’s crowning of a back molar at the dentist. A temp crown now, and a full one in 3 weeks. So, I figured both events plateaus could be crowning achievements for the week.

And along with the music

Posted:

There were a few more instances where I was able to identify a handful of instruments, as they showed themselves during the warmup band’s opening set. It was a bluegrass and rock combined theme.

Sunday Night Concert

Posted:

Thanks to Utah Public Radio for inviting us to an outdoor concert, featuring the Sierra Leone Refugee AllStars, a group of musicians who met in a refugee camp from Freetown. If you like various forms of traditional sound and current Afro Pop, check them out. They’re getting quite a bit of exposure.

I Met The Bird Of Prosperity: A Raven Landed On Mee!

Posted:

A great weekend in Utah. Friday night, we were at the Fieldstone Homes company picnic and evening at the zoo. They had a great bird show, with many varieties doing many things; talking parrot, and many various flyovers. There was a raven, who was described as a bird of prosperity, according to English folklore, if the raven lands on your house, prosperity you shall have. They asked for volunteers from the audience, so the raven could hand the lucky soul five dollars. The catch was, you had to give ***him five dollars from your wallet, and he’d give it back, maybe. No takers at first. They all had suspicious looks on their faces. I stood up, money in hand. Mr. Prosperity flew down, divebombed on to my right arm and cleanly took the money. It then took quite a bit of coaxing for him to give it back. Turns out he probably didn’t like the yellow wrist bands we were wearing as a group. I’ve never really felt a bird up close before. He had quite the talons, but I only felt his weight as he landed. Hmmmm. Maybe the size and mass of a small rotissery chicken from the deli?? Quite the adventure!!

Off to Utah

Posted:

I’ll be there starting Thursday thru Monday, visiting Mary T and Wally. They were here for activation in February, and my last trip out was Thanksgiving of ‘04. The flight itinerary had one of those standard listings of assistance needed sections. It was quite funny to hear the computer speech read it as something like, “Lowfat cholesterol wheelchair.” I’ve not heard of a lowfat cholesterol wheelchair before (smile).

Another Musical Field Trip This Week

Posted:

Another sit-in for the rehearsals for the music festival. Much better identification of components of the music; like differences in sound of woodwind, strings, and brass. But, I couldn’t tell what each individual instrument was yet, but, I ***did pick out 1 flute. I didn’t decipher any tonality of what key was being played, but I’m sure that will occur. I’m looking forward to more live concert music this weekend.

Nothing like glitches, and/or sons of glitches, regarding the new address for this page and blogg. Thanks to Ben for reporting that the new samobile.net/users/paulmigs address is not yet rss enabled, for those wanting to know in instant fashion that something new has been said here. A note has been sent to samobile.net support, and hopefully this will be corrected so it works just like the old address does.

Live Music at Chautauqua

Posted:

A great field trip the other day for ear class. It was the public open rehearsal in the morning for a local orchestra. I could hear the various musical components, but no particular notation, nor could I really tell with the singing imbedded within whether it was man or woman opera singer. Of course, to add to the puzzler was the fact that the music was unfamiliar and diverse, which is fine. I just need to bring on more live music!! Maybe some trips to Pearl Street for some various venues. I’ve been delving into recordings thus far, to start my relearning of absolute pitch. I’m also ready for the next mapping session in August, and am all set for a total tweak for increased power. What happens is, over time, I end up bringing the settings that are defaulted across the scale totally up to the top. This is natural progression and acclamation. It just shows over time periods, you’re ready for more broad spectrum. When I find myself starting to feel very comfortable with everything set to the maximum, Allison and Karen say, as they said before several months ago, “Yep, you’re ready for even more.” Bring it all on!!
